Organic Multipurpose Sanitizing Medium

 Triyo3gani (त्रियॊगनी) is a set of multiple formulations developed for comprehensive sanitization of area, vehicle, fruits and vegetables as well as enhanced cleaning processes. This was evolved with the concept of prevention of spread of infection of COVID-19 or similar disease of microbial origin while ensuring over-sterilization at moderate and low risk areas to be discouraged. Triyo3gani is a generic name given to all formulations that works on unique principle of “infection control” by neutralizing microbial risk/ threat at the site of origin either itself or by combining effectively with ozone or another sterilizing or sanitizing medium.

 These formulations are extremely effective alone to however when combined with ozone, even it’s lower concentration are able to achieve the same and in some cases enhanced effect. Thus, based on nature of occupation and safety aspects, the solution is recommended. For example, Triyogani (fumigant) is effective in neutralizing heat resistant bacterial spores (As per CDC – Other Sterilization Method) however, the effective contact time (including concentration) reduces significantly when used in combination with ozone while testing and validating it with Ozonated Radical Confined Space (ORCS) Sanitization Unit (Poorn Swachh). 

 In generic form, Triyogani solutions are available in multiple forms, however Fruits and Veggie Wash are available both in liquid and solid formulations. The following table provides DRDO Technologies that works in sync with Triyogani Solutions.  2 ml/L of Triyogani (Fumigant)  recommended for Poorn Swachh; 10 ml/ L of Triyogani (Hand Sanitization Concentrate) recommended for Triyogani (Hand Sanitization).

 DRDO Technologies in fighting against COVID-19 was initiated with Ultra Swachh PPE Disinfection Unit (Tri-Netra, Multi-Product). The primary testing and validation of using Ozonated space (Ozone + UV-C) led advance oxidation process are extremely encouraging. These results unleashed the potential of ozone to be explored for different range of product sterilization. Thus, accordingly, Poorn Swachh was evolved based on ORCS technology to sanitize / disinfect Confined Spaces. It is required to keep ozone level restricted in compliance with OSHA 1999: 1000 standard i.e. 0.1 ppm X 8 hrs. Accordingly, there was need of some formulations / radical dispenser which are non-toxic, human safe and most importantly works in synergism with Ozone. Accordingly, Triyogani (Fumigant) was evolved. Now it is being used in both Poorn Swachh and even in Ultra Swachh to support Extreme Oxidative Process (Radical dispension+ Ozone+ UV-C). The same process is applicable for heat sensitive medical devices units.

The distinct disadvantages of over use of alcoholic based sanitizers by community are extremely dangerous. This led to development of Tri-Netra Hand Sanitization Unit that keeps Ozonated water at such significant level of ppm to sanitize your hands. To make it effective at lower concentration of ozone, Triyogani (hand sanitization) was evolved as accessory item. Sooner the effective concentrations at which it can work independently as hand sanitization was also evolved. 

One of prime concerns of the community is to wash fruits and vegetables, Ozonated water is well proven method being food grade organic system. To enhance the shelf life and use of less Ozonated water to achieve same Oxidative Reduction Potential (ORP), Triyogani (Fruits/ Veggie Wash) was evolved. It is an important accessory for Mini Veggie Wash (based on Tri-Netra technology). 

Thus, earlier Triyogani Formulations were evolved as accessory items of various DRDO 

technological products however with testing and validation, their independent use is also evolved. 

 Traditionally, sodium hypochlorite is most commonly used for fumigation. However, it is a toxic chemical which can cause irritation in eyes or skin leading to redness or swelling. It is a powerful oxidant that disintegrates into chlorine and can even damage eyes or lead to respiratory distress when inhaled. Fumigants such as formaldehyde are carcinogenic or cancer causing compounds with potentially lethal effects. Other QUAT based fumigants are irritants for skin, lungs and eyes. Triyogani (fumigant), on the other hand is composed of completely safe and natural herbal extracts which have potent antimicrobial activity. They even help in pest control and overall air purification. 

  Unlike chemical fumigants, there is no requirement of any personal protective equipment as the components are safe. Triyogani (fumigant) can be safely used in domestic settings with no risks for children or elderly. Fogging can be performed without any technical assistance or additional guidance. The product is tested and validated with Poorn Swachh. 

 Human Safe literally means “its operational parameters are designed with consideration of human safety in mind”. For common understanding, the contents used in the system are developed to prevent any acute toxicity impact while starting of operations. In example, the composition of Triyogani (Fumigant) is safe with respect to dilution factor recommended for Poorn Swachh devices in combination with Ozone or even if used alone. This safety factor doesn’t recommend the person to be present during whole operations in Confined Space as it doesn’t cover continuous, repeated exposure led chronic impact of the system. Similarly, ozone levels used  in Poorn Swachh (Enhanced Cleaning Practice Level-I) safe variant has 33% of OSHA recommended levels of ozone for 8 hours operations as accepted global standard. Though, it should not be understood that company recommends operator to be present continuously during sanitization operation in Confined Space. It means it is safe to operate / start the machine without any additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and company recommends leaving machine as it automatically stops once humidity factor is achieved. Once operation is completed, wait for 5 -10 minute delay so that ozonated fog able to penetrate completely at all corners and then use it for next Confined Space. In case of Vayu Swachh and Multi-Product Disinfection Unit (Tri-Netra), Taaran (Safe Passage) Patient Transfer System, all operations are within chamber, thus it is safe to be present in vicinity. The operations inside this chamber are sterilization as ozone levels are extremely high though due to presence of catalytic convertor and UV-C lead ozone neutralization as last steps, no residual ozone is released outside. These chamber based devices are also provided with accessory items like Ozone Leak Monitor for alarming any unprecedented situation due to leak of ozone attributed towards damage of equipment. In case of VisankR or Confined Space Sterilization Devices, human presence even at starting of operations is also inhibited and all safety gears will be installed ensuring human safe operations. 

We recommend a dilution of 1:250 or 4ml in 1 liter solution for fumigation/ aqueous fogging by Poorn Swachh. At this concentration, the product is highly effective against bacteria, fungi, molds and resistant bacteria. It requires shorter exposure time and have prolonged residual activity for hours after processing. 

It is formulated with blend of naturally derived herbs such as Neem, lemongrass and thyme that demonstrated with up to 4 logarithmic (more than 99.99%) reduction in air borne bacteria. There is significant reduction in microbial count or cfu/m3 of air thus improving the overall air quality even at very low concentrations. A comprehensive meta-analysis performed has revealed medicinal properties of these individual extracts. For instance, Neem which is native to Indian subcontinent has strong antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties. Similarly, thymol derived from the plant Thymus vulgaris or thyme were reported to be effective against HIV and HSV viral strains. It has strong antioxidant properties while being safe for the environment.

There are a few alternatives to non-toxic fumigants but each of these come along with disadvantages. For instance, UV light is proposed as a non-chemical alternative for sterilization. However, exposure to UV is harmful for skin and eyes and UV treatment requires additional safety precautions to ensure no human exposure during the treatment. Therefore its use is not recommended in domestic settings. Other methods like cold plasma, CO2 fumigation are expensive methods requiring longer exposure durations and technical expertise for operation. Compared to other methods, Triyogani (Fumigation) is highly effective, and safe for both environment and human exposure. 

Triyogani (hand sanitizer) demonstrated up to 4 logarithmic (more than 99.99%) reduction in microbial cell count within 15-30 seconds of application. These results are better or equivalent to an alcohol based sanitizer with at least 75% alcohol content. 

 Alcohol based sanitizers are often associated with several hazards and risks as mentioned below:

• Dry out skin: Alcohol based sanitizers are usually harsher and dry out the skin upon regular usage. This results in itching, flaking or cracks that can further attract infections. It may also increase risk of Dermatitis, skin irritation or Eczema. Our formulation is composed of alcohol free bioactive agents and emollients that are skin friendly while nourishing the skin for hydration.
• Alcohol poisoning- Several cases of accidental ingestion by young kids resulting in subsequent hospitalization have been reported. Further, they may be misused for inducing intoxication especially in teenagers due to high concentration of alcohol present. Therefore, additional precautions need to be taken to keep them out of reach of children. Our formulation poses no such chemical hazards.
• Fire Hazards: Alcohol based sanitizers are classified as Class 1 flammable liquid substances due to low flashpoints. Alcohol based sanitizers could result in fire hazards especially when used near flame or high temperature environments such as kitchen or near car ignitions. Alcohol free sanitizers are thus safe for domestic applications or near high temperature settings.

Our alcohol-free formulation is composed of highly effective biocidal agents that are fast acting on a broad spectrum of infectious microbes. It is further composed of emollients and skin conditioning agents that prevent drying and are safe for use in domestic settings with young kids. 

Non-alcoholic sanitizers are usually composed of quarternary ammonium compounds like Benzalkonium chloride or triclosan. QUATS are potentially harmful chemicals associated with multiple health risks such as allergies of skin, eye and lungs. They are irritants that induce asthma and contact dermatitis and birth defects. They may also cause irritation in gastrointestinal walls causing nausea and vomiting. Moreover QUATS tend to stick to surfaces and substrates including food leaving a residue which is harmful for both health and environment. Quaternary ammonium compounds: QUAT based hand sanitizers have been widely publicized as alternatives to alcoholic sanitizers but are extremely toxic for both skin and environment. QUATS have been linked with allergic reactions with skin, eyes and lungs. Triclosan is an effective antibacterial and anti-fungal compound. However, repeated usage has been linked with antibiotic resistance which could lead to severe consequences for the public. Hence it is not recommended for use in sanitizers. Our formulation is designed as a safe and eco-friendly alternative to conventional disinfectants. The disinfectant leaves no residue and the herbals extracts have demonstrated to have potent antimicrobial activity.

In traditional medicine, several plant derived extracts have been used for treatment of diverse kinds of medical indications. A wide variety of locally derived herb extracts have been demonstrated to possess antimicrobial activity on par or superior to existing synthetic chemical compounds. One such extract of Azadiracta indica, commonly known as Neem is a native to Indian subcontinent and possesses very strong antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It has also been used popularly for skin associated conditions. Another herbal extract, Thymol derived from the plant Thymus vulgaris has been reported to possess antibacterial and antifungal properties. Studies have shown thymol is effective against HIV and HSV virus strains, indicating a promising function as a sanitizer. It has strong antioxidant and anti-proliferative effect while being safe for the environment. We have exploited the antimicrobial properties a blend of herbal extracts which have been widely studies and published for antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral effect at even low concentrations.

The herbal hand sanitizer has residual antimicrobial activity and has shown increased effectiveness with repeated usage. This is in contrast to alcohol-based sanitizers which show reduced effectiveness with repeated use. Whereas repeated use of alcohol creates skin crevices that can harbor germs, repeated use of our herbal Hand Sanitizer actually improves skin texture, thus making it progressively harder for germs to breed.

No. Under conditions of normal use (hands dry after use), the product will not leave any noticeable aftertaste on food. The sanitizer is both safe for skin as well as when in direct contact with food. The individual components are safe natural herbs and edible compounds deemed safe for consumption as well.

 Plain water does not remove any waxy coating or pesticide residues deposited on top of fruits and vegetables. Majority of the food produce is waxed to increase its shelf life. Moreover, exposure to harmful pesticides coated on vegetables has been associated with increased risk of several autoimmune and degenerative diseases such as cancer, Autism. Additionally, washing with plain water will not remove food-born pathogenic illnesses which particularly effect people with weaker immune systems such as elderly, infants, pregnant women etc.

Vegetable disinfectant is designed to strip off the way layer, pesticide residues, dirt trapped on the surface of the vegetables and pathogenic contaminants. The fruits and vegetables will appear much brighter, clean and more shiny. Moreover, it will increase the shelf life of refrigerated vegetables.

Yes, it is safe to use the disinfectant on all fresh fruits and vegetables. The disinfectant is composed of proprietary natural plant and citrus derived ingredients with proven efficacy in killing microbes.
